On the 18th of December 2020, SonTa Foundation held its monthly charity event at CEF School in Zanzibar, Tanzania. We chose to support this school facility as it is having difficulty staying open due to regulations not meeting government standards and facing possible closure. The school requires a license which it can receive after 3 extra classrooms are built and they meet the necessary requirements. This school was established in 2011 by Judy Palmer to respond to the lack of access to quality education for Zanzibar's orphaned and underprivileged children. Their approach and goal are to help overcome poverty by offering effective education for the children to reach their full potential as employable and community-conscious young adults. The school currently has 73 pupils, 60% of girls which is important to consider as our foundation wants to tackle the issue of inequality of opportunity for girls in Africa. 87% of all pupils are orphans or come from disadvantaged backgrounds and they cannot afford to pay any fees. The school even provides food and basic necessities.
During our event day, we held interactive extra-curricular activities with the volunteers like playing football to promote health and fitness. Posing and confidence training with our fashion model volunteers with the objective of girl empowerment and finally an introduction to meditation with a group meditation by everyone at the event to promote mental health and wellbeing. SonTa foundation contributed 5,000 USD towards the building of the necessary facilities to help the school stay open and receive the necessary licensing. The event day was extremely rewarding for our team and volunteers as well as the children and teachers who thought the event activities fun but also beneficial to their physical and mental well-being. We will stay in cooperation with the school and update our website with news about the ongoing project as our objectives are reached.
