Dhavari is one of the biggest slums in Asia. This is the place where migrant workers in Mumbai with an income of 1 USD per day choose to live. Unfortunately, it locates in Maharastra state, where the impact of the pandemic is most severe in India. COVID-19 caused 45.000 deaths and uncountable job losses in this area. The disruption of income might trigger a famine among 50% of migrant workers living here.
Be aware of the emergency of their situation, SONTA Foundation struggled to connect with partners in India to provide the residents of this area proper aids. Among many helpful organizations, #FROMU2THEM is an NGO that focus on supporting the people in Mumbai during COVID-19. This NGO raised funds that value at about 750.000 USD and delivered successfully more than 4.000.0000 meals to the potential victim of a famine in Mumbai. The cooperation between SONTA Foundation and #FROMU2THEM will help about 150 households of migrant workers to have safe daily meals.
