Vietnam Fearless English Program

Tháng 7, 2025

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The Fearless English Program in Vietnam is a free, high-quality, and long-term English education initiative by the SonTa Foundation. It’s designed to serve underprivileged children and teens by providing access to high-quality, community-based learning.

1. Background & Rationale

Rooted in SonTa Foundation’s vision and mission for sustainable education, SDG 4 – Quality Education, and guided by Founder Tạ Công Sơn’s direction:

"With a mission to improve the quality of life and employment opportunities for marginalized children through sustainable education..."

The Foundation launched the "Fearless English Program" to help young people equip themselves with English as a powerful tool for international integration and to reduce educational inequality, especially the gap in English proficiency between urban and rural students. The program also aims to help learners overcome psychological barriers and English-related trauma during their language learning journey.

2. Program Objectives

Regarding English learning, the program aims to help students:

  • Learn English without a financial burden

  • Access internationally standardized English curricula

  • Use English in daily life

  • Study in an engaging and inclusive learning environment

Beyond English skills, the program aims to help students:

  • Feel safe and understand their own emotions and those of others

  • Develop diverse perspectives on society, and embrace self-acceptance and social acceptance

  • Strengthen their capacity for self-learning and personal growth

  • Build their values and understanding of society and identity

3. Program Structure & Activities

  • Aligned with the CEFR framework

  • Grouped by age (primary or lower secondary) and ability level

Teaching Methods

  • Core method: 3P – Presentation, Practice, Production

  • Integrated use of other approaches such as PBL, CLT, TBLT, TPR, ELT, depending on learner needs

  • Inclusion of SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) through the 9 domains of GNH (Gross National Happiness)

The program combines language proficiency frameworks (CEFR) with SEL, SDGs, and GNH principles, aiming not only to teach English but to nurture a happy and meaningful future for both individuals and society.

4. Social Impact

  • Reducing educational inequality: Bringing international-standard English education to rural areas and marginalized learners, including orphans, visually impaired children, and children of migrant workers

  • Breaking the stigma of learning English: Helping learners overcome trauma and fear related to language learning

  • Improving language application skills: Encouraging independent learning and regular, confident use of English

  • Strengthening social-emotional development (SEL): Supporting holistic development through language and life skills

  • Fostering a positive learning community: Connecting students, teachers, and volunteers nationwide

  • Nurturing nonprofit education professionals: Serving as an incubator for young educators, social workers, and program coordinators
